According to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, or NIDCOM, her office contacted Kemi Badenoch, the head of the recently elected UK Conservative Party, but got no answer.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, Dabiri-Erewa made this revelation.
Additionally, she stated that Badenoch will not be forced to accept her Nigerian heritage by the Nigerian government.
Whether or not she accepts her Nigerian identity will determine this. We contacted her a couple of times, but she didn’t respond. According to Dabiri-Erewa, “We don’t force anyone to acknowledge being Nigerian.”
“We are willing to collaborate with anyone who identifies as Nigerian, but we cannot impose our will on them.”
Although Badenoch was born in 1980 in London, she spent a portion of her childhood in Lagos and the US.
