President Bola Tinubu has come under fire from Afrobeat musician Seun Anikulapo-Kuti for his decision to end gasoline subsidies.
He claimed that the President’s assertion that the elimination of the fuel subsidy was a “tough” choice he made for the benefit of the nation as a whole was untrue and that it was a “wicked decision” that jeopardized Nigerians’ well-being.
Kuti criticized the President for spending $150 million on a jet while the school system is receiving inadequate funding. He contended that the funds allocated for the President’s new aircraft could have built and operated ten elementary schools for twenty years.
Who donated the $150 million plane for Tinubu, the incensed singer inquired during a recent Instagram Live session? Whom did they solicit money from?
“Do you know how many schools that $150 million will build? just how long will an elementary school operate? With that money, ten excellent primary schools might be operated for at least twenty years. Ten generations of Africans would be educated via the construction and operation of ten excellent elementary schools, Kuti continued.
“The President cannot tell us that this petrol matter is outside of his control,” he said. He is both the Minister of Petroleum and the President. They claim to make difficult decisions, yet in this case, no difficult choice was made. President Tinubu made a terrible choice, and this whole subsidy and floating the dollar, there is nothing tough about it.”
