During a news conference held at the Governor’s office in New Government, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki, the state capital, on Tuesday (today), the development was revealed.
With immediate effect, Igwe, the former commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, has been placed on indefinite leave.
According to reports, the governor gave the commissioner a task involving the payment of local government pensions by a state council chairman, which he failed to complete effectively.
This suspension is the fourth recent dismissal of a commissioner.
Notably, Governor Nwifuru had previously suspended the commissioners for housing and urban development, water resources, and health for three months each for flagrant misbehavior and neglect of duty.
He underlined that his administration is still committed to meeting the needs outlined in the charter of the people.
“Your Threat To Fire Employees Is Careless, Ineffective,” the NLC Says of Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru
Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, has come under fire from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for threatening to fire striking employees for failing to implement the new minimum salary of N70,000.
Speaking to reporters Monday in his office at the new Government House in Centenary City, Abakaliki, Nwifuru reportedly threatened to withhold the workers’ pay and replace them after they were fired, according to Naija News.
The governor emphasized that the state government has approved ₦75,000 as the minimum wage and has already begun paying it, and that it owes no workers anything.
However, NLC President Joe Ajaero said in a statement that the labour body described the Nwifuru’s threat as irresponsible and urged state workers to intensify the strike.
