Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, has volunteered to comply with human rights attorney Dele Farotimi’s bail requirements.

An Ekiti Magistrate Court granted Farotimi bail on Friday in connection with Afe Babalola’s defamation case.

A N30 million bond, two sureties (one of whom must be a home owner), giving up his passport, and refusing to give media interviews are all requirements of the bail terms.

Tanko Yunusa, a former spokesperson for Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, made the announcement of Mr. Obi’s decision in a statement posted on his X account on Friday.

Yunusa said that Obi, as a proponent of the rule of law, wanted the issue resolved in a way that respects legal processes and benefits everyone involved.

“As the head of the Obedient Movement, I conferred with His Excellency, Peter Obi. He offered to take Dele Farotimi on the terms of bail because he respected the rule of law, due process, and order, Yunusa said.

Additionally, he conveyed Obi’s appreciation to everyone involved in the situation.

“His concern is that the situation be resolved in the best interest of all parties and our legal system.

“He expressed his profound gratitude to everyone involved,” Yunusa continued.
