
Senator Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has pledged to keep funding the entertainment sector in order to increase travel and actively involve young people.
Speaking at the Bayelsa Karaoke Singing Competition Season 4 grand finale at the Banquet Hall in Yenagoa with the theme “Challenge for Prosperity,” the governor said the event was a conscious attempt to empower youth, lessen social vices, and find musical potential.
The Governor, who congratulated this year’s victors and was represented by Commissioner for Tourism Development Mr. John Alah, promised that the Prosperity Government would continue to support the yearly Karaoke competition.
The goal of the eight-week Bayelsa Karaoke Singing Competition, according to its creator and visionary, Mr. Joseph Emarada, well known as MC Okpeke, the Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment in the State, is to nurture young musicians and provide them with the tools they need for a bright future.
MC Okpeke expressed gratitude to Governor Senator Douye Diri for supporting the project, granting the N1 million reward, and awarding Samson Itonyo, an Igbedi native, a one-year recording contract as this year’s overall winner.
The winner of Season 4 of the Bayelsa Karaoke Singing Competition, Mr. Samson Itonyo, better known by his stage name, STARR, is extremely grateful to the organizers for providing them with a stage on which to display their abilities.
Following the grand finale, Ogbia-born Ruth Olu Sunday, better known by her stage name RUTHNEY, placed third and was awarded a sum of Four Hundred Thousand Naira, while Oporoma-born Kekebou Dennis Believe-God, also known as DEN KAY, finished in second place with a prize money of Six Hundred Thousand Naira.
Thirty-six contestants ultimately participated following the auditions out of the 86 that initially joined the program.
