Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), was cleared by the Court of Appeal in Abuja of the Code of Conduct Tribunal’s conviction for making a false asset declaration.

After the problems that led to Onnoghen’s prosecution and conviction were resolved, the Appellate Court reversed the conviction that the Umar Yakubu Danladi tribunal had handed down on April 18, 2019.

In a ruling based on the conditions of the settlement reached between Onnoghen and the federal government, Justice Abba Bello Mohammed mandated that he get the four bank accounts that had earlier been ordered to be forfeited.

Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) Adegboyega Awomolo and Ogwu James Onoja, Onnoghen’s attorneys, thanked President Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) in a brief statement for seeing to the matter’s settlement.
