Updates on the present situation among the political parties have been given by the New Nigerian Peoples Party, or NNPP.
Speaking during a news conference led by the party’s national chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the NNPP responded to recent events in which individuals posing as party officials and members convened a convention in Apapa, Lagos State.
According to the NNPP, these individuals are sponsored elements rather than party members or leaders, and they have openly attacked the party’s credibility and Nigerians’ mental health.
According to Ahmed, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has recognized him as the National Chairman of the sole NNPP.
According to him, it is illegal and impolite for any group to call itself the NNPP under any pretext.
“Therefore, we did not establish a new National Working Committee, or NWC, because the NNPP did not hold a National Convention in recent years,” it stated.
According to the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022, the current NNPP NWC was established in 2022 under INEC’s supervision, he stated.
As we march, let me briefly discuss the game that some of these former members of this party are playing, which is being encouraged by leaders who fear the opposition because they fear their own shadows.
“Some members of this Party who publicly engaged in anti-party actions were dealt to appropriate disciplinary procedures and found wanting immediately following the general elections in 2023.
They were properly sanctioned, but in order to divert the Party’s focus, they chose to make themselves available to outsiders as willing instruments rather than investigating the internal channels the Party had established to resolve their complaints.
In almost every region of the nation, they have been hopping from one court to another, hopping from pillar to post, and quickly losing one case after another. They have appeared in and lost cases in Abuja, Ekiti, Port Harcourt, Awka, Kano, and Katsina courts, constantly attempting in vain to deceive the legal system and take advantage of everyone they know court processes. All those have failed.
“In their confusion, in November 2024, they took themselves to Court in Abia State, in the name of NNPP. Meanwhile, an Abuja Federal High Court as far back as April 2024 had ruled that, as expelled former members of the Party, they should stop parading themselves as NNPP members or leaders in any shape or form.
“The Federal High Court judgment of 18th April, 2024, declared them as impostors, having been expelled by the party, and as such can neither sue in the name of the party nor against the party.
“This same hired and sponsored emergency collection of characters gathered themselves in Lagos three days ago in the name of NNPP to hold a ludicrous charade of tipsy comedians, when a Court of competent jurisdiction in Abuja on gave a clear and unmistakable injunction against them not to hold that meeting. They defied the court ruling and went ahead to hold a beer parlour meeting in a hotel lobby which they now called National Convention.
“We want to use this medium to inform and confirm to the world that the NNPP does not operate from Apapa, we did not hold any convention this year in any hotel lobby in Lagos.
