The US’s withdrawal from the WHO was one of the 200 executive orders and memoranda that President Trump signed on Monday following his inauguration.

The World Health organization said in a statement Tuesday morning that Trump’s order was unfortunate. WHO reminded everyone that the United States has been part of its mission to save countless lives since its founding in 1948.

“By tackling the underlying causes of illness, strengthening health systems, and identifying, preventing, and responding to health emergencies, including disease outbreaks, frequently in hazardous locations where others cannot go, WHO plays a critical role in safeguarding the health and security of people worldwide, including Americans.

Along with 193 other Member States, the United States was one of the original members of WHO in 1948 and has since actively engaged in the World Health Assembly and Executive Board, helping to shape and oversee the organization’s operations.

“The USA and WHO have saved countless lives and shielded Americans and everyone else from health hazards for more than 70 years. We have worked together to eradicate smallpox and have nearly eradicated polio. It stated that American organizations had both profited from and contributed to WHO membership.

The World Health Organization demanded that President Trump’s directive be reexamined. For the benefit of millions of people worldwide, WHO further stated that it hoped for positive communication with the administration of the 47th President of the United States.

“Over the past seven years, WHO has carried out the most extensive set of changes in its history, transforming its accountability, cost-effectiveness, and impact in nations with the assistance of the United States and other Member States. This work is still ongoing.

For the sake of the health and welfare of millions of people worldwide, it continued, “We hope the United States will reconsider and we look forward to engaging in constructive dialogue to maintain the partnership between the USA and WHO.”
