Along with Senator Lee Maeba, Governor Fubara brought a high-profile group that included Chief Victor Giadom, Chief Kenneth Kobani, Monsignor Pius Kii, Ledum Mitee, and Senators Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Bennett Birabi Barry, Mpigi, and Joe Poroma.
Prominent government figures also attend the meeting, including Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited; Balarabe Abba, the Environment Minister; Idris Mohammed, the Information and National Orientation Minister; Abubakar Momoh, the Regional Development Minister; and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.
Although the agenda’s exact contents have not been made public, it is thought that the Ogoni cleanup effort and the potential restart of oil drilling in the area will be the main topics of conversation.
As previously reported by Naija News, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has voiced serious concerns about being left out of the proposed meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some Ogoni leaders regarding the resumption of oil activities in Ogoni land.
MOSOP expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of consultation in a statement signed by its three factional presidents, Prince Nuyete Biira, Fegalo Nsuke, and Engr. Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu. The statement called the meeting “clandestine” and warned that it could jeopardize ongoing efforts at peace and reconciliation in the area.
