A number of federal universities, notably the University of Abuja, which is now known as Yakubu Gowon University, have seen leadership changes declared by President Bola Tinubu.
The President’s spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement on Thursday that the modifications are effective immediately.
President Tinubu dismissed Prof. Aisha Maikudi from her position as vice-chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University and disbanded the whole governing council.
The pro-chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University is Sen. Lanre Tejuoso, who was previously the pro-chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
According to the announcement, Sen. Joy Emordi, who is now the pro-chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education, will succeed him in Makurdi.
Tinubu named Prof. Lar Patricia Manko as the Yakubu Gowon University’s Acting Vice Chancellor for a six-month tenure in order to replace Maikudi.
When the substantive Vice Chancellor position opens up, she won’t be able to apply for it.
Before his term expires on February 14, the President has also dismissed Professor Polycarp Chigbu from his role as Acting Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.
His successor, Prof. Oguejiofu Ujam, has been appointed for a six-month term and will not be qualified to apply for the permanent role.
“Gen. Ike Nwachukwu was moved to the position of Pro-Chancellor at the University of Uyo as part of the leadership changes at UNN.
Engr. Olubunmi Ojo was named the new UNN Pro-Chancellor by President Tinubu. Ojo previously served in the similar capacity at the Federal Universities of Oye-Ekiti and Lokoja.
According to the statement, Ojo would be replaced at the Federal University of Lokoja by Prof. Zubairu Abdullahi, who is currently the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo.
Sen. Sani Stores, a current Council Member at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has been appointed Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education, replacing Sen. Joy Emordi.
Furthermore, Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra has named Mr. Olugbenga Kukoyi, a current Council Member at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as its new Pro-Chancellor.
“All reassignment and appointment decisions take effect right away.
President Tinubu emphasized that these adjustments demonstrate his administration’s dedication to reviving Nigeria’s university system via accountable and vibrant leadership.
The goal of the reorganization is to improve academic quality and governance in Nigeria’s higher education system.
