In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, or TCN, said that vandals had once again attacked its 330kV Shiroro–Katampe transmission line.
She said that at around 11:43 p.m. on Wednesday, the 330kV Shiroro–Katampe circuit lost grid power, and that ‘a trial reclosure was attempted, but the line tripped again immediately’
Mbah further stated that a TCN lines patrol team was sent from the company’s Abuja Regional headquarters to look into the reason for the malfunction.
According to her, the team found that a portion of the conductor between towers T216 and T218 had been stolen by vandals.
The TCN lines maintenance crew has since moved to the location and is diligently working to restore the vandalised 330kV power conductor, according to the general manager.
It is anticipated that the bulk power supply will shortly be restored via the impacted line. “We ask for the public’s help in spotting and reporting questionable activity around power transmission equipment.
“Your cooperation and attentiveness are essential in preventing vandalism or catching the offenders,” she stated.
