Security agents shot and killed one member of an armed robbery group who was attempting to rob unsuspecting churchgoers.

The event occurred on Sunday morning about 6 a.m., while some residents of Ifite in Awka were on their way to Sunday Mass.

One of the victims (name withheld), who works at a prominent restaurant in Awka, was robbed of her phone and other belongings. She indicated there were three gang members, but only one was killed.

She explained, “I was returning from work, and another girl who was heading to church had just walked out of their lodge gate when the three males approached us and began questioning what we had in our luggage.

“The girl who was heading to church noticed them and threw her luggage into the bush. They checked my luggage, found my phone and cash, and took them. The other girl went into her cabin, while I ran into the wilderness.”

She revealed that one of the robbers pursued her, while the other two pursued the girl on her way to church. As she concealed in the bush, one of the robbers approached, seemingly looking for her.

During the ruckus, a neighborhood security guard emerged and fatally shot the robber, while the other two fled.

The robber’s corpse was still lying in the area when this complaint was filed.
