Recalls that Bobrisky allegedly said in a video uploaded by controversial activist VeryDarkMan that he bought off several officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop the money laundering accusation against him.
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) controller general Haliru Nababa and Bobrisky’s “godfather” made sure she served the six-month term in a private residence rather than a jail, according to a voice in the video that purportedly belonged to Bobrisky.
Nonetheless, a senior official told Punch in an interview that the so-called VIP treatment for some inmates was a unique facility that had been in place for years.
According to the officer, inmates’ health, age, and sex decide which of the several facilities in custodial centers they would be housed in during their jail term.
There are various facilities in the detention centers around the nation, and it is acceptable to treat some of the inmates based on their age, sex, health status, and sentence category, the officer stated. Crucially, the jail administration also takes inmate treatment and human rights into account.
“The Bobrisky case has opened our eyes. According to the NCoS authority, he is a male from the center downward and a lady from the middle upward. There is no institution for such a case, and we have never had someone like that in our custody. In order to protect him from abuse, he had to be put in a different cell. That facility is what he ignorantly called a private apartment.
“A prisoner’s condition will dictate the institution they are housed in, whether they are VIP or not. A prisoner with high blood pressure cannot be housed in a cell with inadequate ventilation.
