Anambra police have thwarted a suspected armed secessionist group’s attempt to kidnap a foreign national in Ogbunka community.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement stated the foreigner was rescued during a gun duel.
However, he claimed that despite being injured by a bullet, two police officers managed to flee with the foreigner.
He declared, “In the early hours of June 10, 2024, police officers foiled a plot by suspected armed secessionists in Ogbunka hamlet to kidnap or abduct a foreign individual.
“The VIP was saved by the Operatives who bravely engaged the thugs in a gunfight. Sadly, two police officers who were shot by a gunshot managed to flee with the foreigner during the gunfight. They are presently receiving care in a hospital and are stable.
“Meanwhile, Operations are proceeding in the vicinity for the possible apprehension of the Armed individuals.
Additionally, on June 10, 2024, at 8:25 p.m., police officers from the Nimo Police Station responded to a distress call regarding a possible cult altercation in Umuka, Nawfia.
“The operators discovered four young men’s motionless bodies in a pool of blood next to a road, possibly from multiple gunshot wounds.
“A doctor on duty pronounced the victims dead, and they have been placed in the morgue.
“They were eventually identified as Ahmed Auwal, Nnatuanya Junior A.K.: A Starboy of Mmimi village Nawfia, Aniemena A.K.A. Osama of Umuariam Village, and one Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta of Mmimi village Nawfia.
“The victims are well-known for their evil deeds and are constantly at odds with another local cult group, according to information from witnesses and some of the townspeople.
“Furthermore, Joint patrol with Operatives of the Special Anit Cultism Squad (SPACS) has been intensified in the area.”
