The suspension of Mamman Mike Osuman, the chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, for allegedly speaking truth to power has been denounced by the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, or NYCN.
Isah Abubakar, the group’s national president, said in a statement released in Kaduna on Saturday that it is bad when Northern leaders put their own interests before of the development and welfare of their people as a whole.
What did the chairman say that doesn’t accurately represent what many people were afraid to say for fear of being favored? The actions of the so-called ACF leaders, who suspended their chairman for speaking out against the status quo at a time when everyone is frightened to do so, deeply humiliate us Northern youth.
Their behavior more accurately depicts the current state of northern Nigeria, where everyone acts in their own self-interest; this was not the case in the past. This is a new Northern Nigeria where everyone works for their own interests and doesn’t care what happens to others. This is what Prof. Ango Abdullahi stood for, not the Northern Nigeria that the late Chief Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi sacrificed for, the Northern Nigeria that the late Yusuf Maitama Sule stood for, or the Northern Nigeria that the late justice Mamma Nasir stood for.
Abubakar urged the ACF’s National Executive Council to immediately change their mind, reinstate Mamman Osuman, and refrain from taking any action that would bring the organization even more shame.
He threatened that if the suggestion is not followed, NYCN members will organize to close the ACF headquarters in Kaduna in the upcoming days.
He reassured the populace that no organization or group willing to confront authority or present facts to refute the nation’s current state could be silenced.
