The new N250,000 monthly compensation for Abia State’s traditional rulers has been authorised by Governor Alex Otti.
In a thank-you note to the governor on Saturday, Eze Linus Nto Mba, the chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, revealed the information.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers council’s chief officials and all of its members, Mba stated that the monthly package payment will start in December 2024.
He clarified that the N150,000 Christmas package that Otti recently authorised for more than 500 traditional rulers in Abia State is not the same as the N250,000 monthly salary.
The Council is appreciative that the Governor will start providing a monthly stipend of N250,000 starting in December 2024.
With the exception of the traditional rulers in Aba South, who would get a separate sum, “the Council expresses gratitude that the Governor would begin to pay two hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N250,000) monthly stipend to every Eze in Abia state from this month of December 2024,” he added.
According to Eze MBA, the traditional institution and the governor have a friendly connection. He also mentioned that previous state administrations did not treat the monarchs with the same respect.
In order for peace and security to rule supreme, he said that traditional leaders will continue to assist the governor in driving out criminal elements from different areas.
