55,859 permanent voter cards have been handed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in advance of Ondo State’s gubernatorial election next month.

This was revealed in a statement on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

Olumekun disclosed that the commission’s local government offices will not be used to collect the PVCs.

The statement claims that the commission allowed the PVCs from the most recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Ondo State to be picked up in each of the state’s 203 wards for a period of five days.

Therefore, the commission reiterated its position that no cards would be collected by proxy and urged the remaining voters to pick up their PVCs from their local government offices.

The commission is happy to report that, in accordance with the law, new registrants and applicants personally picked up 55,859 cards at the conclusion of the five days for the purpose of transferring or replacing any lost or damaged cards. Out of the 89,777 cards that are available for collection, this number equals 62.2%.

Since the commission implemented the CVR in 2015, this represents the largest proportion of PVCs collected in five days in Ondo State. For the public’s knowledge, a thorough analysis of the collection by local government areas has been posted to our website and social media accounts.

at the meantime, the collection will start up again at our 18 Ondo State local government offices tomorrow, Wednesday, October 23, and run until Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every day, including weekends. Our website currently has comprehensive information about the locations of our local government offices in Ondo State,” the statement said.
