A Whitepaper on the frequency of online harms and the necessity of taking action has been released, according to the Nigerian government.

The purpose of the whitepaper was to address Nigeria’s growing problem of online damage.

The framework for an Online Harms Protection Bill builds on the conversations and important takeaways from Nigeria’s first Content Moderation and Online Safety Summit, according to a statement signed by Hadiza Umar, Director, Corporate Communications and Media Relations of the National Information Technology Development Agency, or NITDA.

The government’s efforts through different agencies to provide solutions to safeguard citizens and children online are highlighted in the whitepaper, the statement said.

The statement went on to say, “It also offers rich resources on pertinent conceptual ideas that are crucial to the debate on approaches for regulatory action to combat online harms.”

The study gives a variety of concepts that could be taken into consideration for creating a framework in Nigeria and further examines initiatives from other jurisdictions.

Stakeholder participation and the creation of an all-encompassing, cooperative framework for a bill to safeguard Nigerians when navigating online and interactive information would be facilitated by the whitepaper.

According to him, the whitepaper is not meant to be a definitive document outlining the specifics of internet harm in Nigeria.
