Despite the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen TA Lagbaja’s formal leave, the Nigerian Army (NA) has maintained that its operational and administrative functions will continue as usual. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army’s Director of Public Relations, issued a statement dismissing reports of a leadership vacuum, underlining the Army’s hierarchical establishment and well-defined processes for dealing with diverse scenarios.
The Nigerian Army has recently reached key milestones, displaying its devotion to everyday duties and following established protocols. One major accomplishment was the successful completion of the Captain-Major Practical Promotion Examination at Akure. This exercise demonstrates the Army’s commitment to boosting the careers of its officers.
Furthermore, the Nigerian Army has made strides in advancing its warrant officers. The Master Warrant Officer to Army Warrant Officer Promotion Exercise is now taking place in Jos, following the successful conclusion of the Warrant Officer to Master Warrant Officer (WO-MWO) promotion exercise in Kaduna. The findings of these exercises are expected to be made available soon, pending final reconciliation between the respective Corps and the Army Headquarters Department of Personnel Management.
According to Nwachukwu, these accomplishments demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s dedication to its tasks in the absence of the COAS.
Major General Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), is essentially controlling affairs until the COAS returns, providing continuity and stability within the organization.
The Army Headquarters has urged the public to keep confident in the NA’s ability to maintain security and defend Nigeria’s borders. The NA is focused on its responsibilities and is fully prepared to handle any security challenges.
“The Army Headquarters would want to thank all well-meaning Nigerians who have expressed genuine concern over Lt Gen TA Lagbaja and continues to pray for him. “We assure Nigerians and the international community that all land-related training, operational, and administrative activities are on track,” General Nwachukwu said.
