To improve students’ employability and practical skills, the Federal Government has announced a major revision to the nation’s Basic Education curriculum, including 15 new vocational skills. The National Council on Education approved the revised curriculum, which will be put into effect in January 2025.

The government has set aside three months for private and public schools to prepare for the changes to facilitate a seamless transition. During this time, important projects will involve the development of instructional guides, infrastructural improvements, and teacher training.

The revised curriculum aims to give Nigerian students access to contemporary skills like robotics, digital literacy, and a range of career and entrepreneurial prospects. These courses will be flexible enough for students to select from, guaranteeing that they gain real-world information that meets economic demands.

The main objective of the government is to help students become more independent and competitive globally. The program now includes 15 new trades, which include:

1. Plumbing

2. Flooring and Tiling

3. Installation of POP
