There is apparently a heavy gunfight going on at Mbata, Umuchima village, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia State, between members of the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade, Ohafia, and unidentified gunmen.

According to the Nations, more than fifteen Hilux cars and armored personnel carriers targeted alleged militants when they arrived in Umuchima village at around six in the morning.

According to reports, the gunmen set up camp close to a river that separates Imo State’s Abia from the Mbaise axis.

The story claims that while some soldiers are fighting the gunmen in the surrounding bushes, others have taken control of important intersections that lead into and out of the settlement.

As of the time of this report, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Abia State Government had issued any formal pronouncements, and gunfire continued.

The development might have something to do with Governor Alex Otti’s recent promise to improve security after meeting with senior security personnel.
