On Tuesday, Turkey said that it would take 15 Palestinian inmates that Israel had freed as part of the ceasefire deal in Gaza.
In the first phase, 15 exiled Palestinians would be transferred to Turkey via Egypt under the supervision of the National Intelligence Organization, the Turkish presidency announced in a statement.
Some inmates serving life sentences will not be permitted to return to Palestine, Israel stated in the ceasefire accord.
According to NAN, the statement also stated that Turkey had consented to take a certain number of people on humanitarian grounds.
This comes less than a few days after Israel announced that Palestinians could begin moving back to the northern part of the war-torn Gaza Strip following an agreement with Hamas to free six more hostages.
In return for Israel releasing hundreds of Palestinians from its jails, Hamas has released 18 prisoners since the ceasefire agreement went into effect on January 19.
Remember how the current ceasefire accord just led to the release of four Israeli female soldiers who Hamas had detained for 477 days?
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, said that Gaza had turned into a “demolition site” and mentioned that he had discussed evicting the Palestinians with King Abdullah II of Jordan.
“I want people to go to Egypt.” Trump told reporters, “And I want Jordan to take people.”
