According to Chief Emeka Anyaoku, a former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Nigeria’s 1999 constitution needs to be repealed.
According to Anyaoku, Nigeria cannot be saved by Angel Gabriel if the 1999 constitution is upheld.
The 1999 constitution would keep Nigeria from reaching its full potential, according to the former Commonwealth Secretary-General, who made this statement in Lagos.
He maintained that Nigeria’s unity, stability, and progress are seriously hampered by the constitution.
Anyaoku contrasted that period with the present stalemate, stating that “Nigeria was more united, more stable, and developing towards its potential.”
“Nigeria cannot be saved by an angel like Gabriel as long as it is governed by this constitution.”
According to Anyaoku, pluralistic countries prosper when they use truly federal constitutions that permit decentralized authority and regional autonomy to address their variety.
According to him, Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution stifled the country’s ability to develop cohesively because it did not take into account the country’s unique cultural and regional environment.
