Yoav Gallant, the defense minister, was fired by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Throughout the more than year-long conflict against Hamas in the Middle East and Gaza Strip, Netanyahu and Gallant had open disagreements.
According to Netanyahu, he dismissed Gallant because of “gaps” in their understanding of how to handle the conflict and a lack of trust.
Netanyahu stated in a statement that “complete trust between the prime minister and defense minister is more important than ever in the midst of a war.” “Unfortunately, the trust between me and the defense minister eroded in the final months of the campaign, despite the fact that there was a great deal of productive work during the first few months.”
According to reports, Netanyahu has proposed Yisrael Katz, Israel’s foreign minister, to succeed Gallant.
The “security of the state of Israel always was, and will always remain my life’s mission,” Gallant asserted in his own statement.
Gallant was fired soon after Israel attacked Iran, destroying important parts of their air defense system and hitting military installations.
Netanyahu was cautioned by Biden not to launch any more provocative strikes on Iranian oil or nuclear sites.
