According to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), traders at the Apo Mechanic Village will be forced to move for the benefit of the general public.
The announcement was made by Wike on Tuesday while inspecting the ongoing construction of the OSEX’s left-hand service lane from Ring Road 1 (Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway) to Wasa Junction.
The OSEX road corridor runs alongside the Apo Mechanic Village.
The minister gave the assurance that the committee responsible for the traders’ relocation was carrying out its mandate to move them to a permanent location in Wasa in the public interest.
He added that the FCTA did not anticipate any issues with the traders’ relocation and that the traders were already aware that the road project will travel through the region.
“The committee is carrying out its duties. You are aware that the road will go through that region. Therefore, that won’t be an issue.
“We have informed them that, in the best interests of everyone, they will be forced to depart when we reach that point. No one is very interested in it. For the general public.
“The president has ordered that all areas, including the satellite towns and the city, be opened up with road infrastructure.
You won’t believe it now that solar street lights will be installed on every road we’re building in the satellite towns—something that has never been done before.
“So, everything is great, and we are pleased with what the contractors are doing as well as what we are seeing. The Renewed Hope Agenda is, in fact, a reality and is functioning. People’s eyes are capable of seeing. Not that you are informed.
