The request of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to virtually present two witnesses in the trial of former Governor Godwin Emefiele of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been granted by an FCT High Court in Maitama.

In a decision on Thursday, Justice Maryanne Anenih approved the EFCC’s request for permission to use a video link to call the witnesses, who are now overseas.

Emefiele is facing six charges from the EFCC, including producing fresh naira notes illegally.

As the fourth witness for the prosecution, Edward Adamu, a former Deputy Governor of Corporate Services at the CBN, finished testifying, the court postponed the trial until October 17.

A. O. Mohammed, the attorney for the EFCC, informed the court at yesterday’s case mention that the two witnesses the prosecution intended to call next were located in the United States of America (U.S.A.).
