The Senate entered a closed-door meeting to address the dismissal of Justice Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, or CCT, during the plenary led by Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio.

Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, sponsored a resolution on Wednesday that removed Justice Umar as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, citing Section 157(1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

There are numerous petitions against the Chairman, according to Opeyemi, who is encouraging the Senate to depend on the constitutional provision.

According to a senatorial source, in order to ensure a smooth and free discussion, a closed-door meeting was required to resolve any ambiguities before opening the Chamber for debate.A two-thirds majority of the combined Chambers must approve the removal of a CCT chairman, according to the Constitution.

The appointment of Mr. Abdullahi Usman Bello as a substantive Chairman will be made possible if Justice Danladi Umar is removed.
