On Monday, a 40-foot filled container fell on a Toyota Camry at Mile 2 on its way to Apapa, Lagos State, but the driver of the vehicle survived.
The driver was saved alive thanks to the quick and well-coordinated response of LASTMA and other emergency services, such as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, or LASEMA, according to a statement released by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, or LASTMA.
The united rescue team brought the victim to the hospital, where they got emergency medical assistance, according to the statement. Officers from the Kirikiri Police Division successfully maintained security during the operation, guaranteeing a safe and orderly setting for the emergency responders. Following the rescue, the Toyota Camry was successfully removed from beneath the container.”
Taofiq stated that while LASTMA officials continue to control the area to reduce traffic and return everything to normal, efforts are underway to evacuate the collapsed container.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, reaffirmed how crucial it is for truck drivers and owners to secure containers properly.
He emphasized that carelessness in this area puts people and property in peril and called for rigorous adherence to traffic safety regulations to prevent such disastrous events.
“LASTMA continues to work cooperatively with pertinent stakeholders to uphold traffic laws and enhance public safety, and it remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Lagos roadways,” he stated.
