House of Representatives, a bill to create the Nigeria Surrogacy Regulatory Commission has passed a second reading.
During Thursday’s plenary, Rep. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala (APC-Oyo) proposed a bill that sought to register and regulate surrogacy as well as monitor and supervise surrogacy arrangements.
Through the procedure of surrogacy, a woman bears and gives birth to a child or children on behalf of a couple who is having trouble becoming pregnant or for an individual who wants a kid but does not want to go through the prenatal process under certain conditions.
Speaking to reporters following the plenary, Alao-Akala stated that the bill will safeguard the rights of all parties, including the kid, if it is signed into law.
He claims that the measure will support and encourage struggling couples to become parents while also working to end all types of prejudice and exploitation.
This rule is one of choice rather than coercion since it concerns your desire to procreate and decide whether to follow a certain path.
It is not a legally binding statute that mandates that everyone obtain children through surrogacy.
“I know it is not going to be accepted fully everywhere at once because of culture and religion,
“As I previously stated, it is not a coercive law; rather, it is a law implemented to ensure that there are guidelines for anyone wishing to participate in it. he stated.
