In a letter to Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, the Nigeria Democratic Front (NDF) has demanded a comprehensive investigation into accusations made against Senator Shehu Buba over his alleged involvement with wanted bandits.

Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, spokesman for the NDF, signed the letter that was made publicly available on Tuesday.

Recall that the senator from Bauchi South was charged with having connections to outlaws.

But Buba acknowledged that the alleged bandit and Mrs. Aliyu were among the people he registered for the trip in a statement released on Friday in Abuja by his Legislative Assistant, Hassan Guruji. However, Buba added that the individuals were nominated by elders, community, and religious leaders in Bauchi State.

He said he was just registering the alleged bandit for the pilgrimage since he was nominated by state leaders and had no connection to him.

However, NDF stated in the letter to the Senate President that the accusations must not be disregarded.

Nigeria is in dangerous danger of collapsing due to the country’s alarmingly high degree of insecurity. It said, “The nation’s constant violence, kidnappings, and attacks have reached intolerable levels.”

The organization said to the Senate President, “We, the Nigeria Democratic Front (NDF), are compelled to call on your good office to act swiftly in the face of growing allegations of complicity by key political figures, given the enormity of these challenges.”

If these charges are validated, it will expose a system of widespread collusion that is causing our nation’s insecurity dilemma. The people of Nigeria are no longer going to take this kind of betrayal lying down.

“It is with great concern that we declare the latest disclosures pertaining to Senator Shehu Buba, who represents the Bauchi South Senatorial District.

The fact that Senator Buba is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, a position that puts him at the center of our country’s security apparatus, makes this matter even more concerning.

The people of Nigeria demand accountability and an inquiry. The ramifications of this circumstance beyond simple accusations; they cut to the fundamental foundation of citizens’ trust  place in their elected representatives.

“To preserve the integrity of the National Assembly and stop further deterioration of public confidence in our democratic institutions, a thorough investigation into Senator Shehu Buba’s alleged relationships with criminal elements is essential.”

According to the pro-democracy organization, “any attempts to address Nigeria’s security crisis would be threatened by allowing Senator Buba to continue to head the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence while under investigation.”

“The country cannot afford to take the further danger of compromise within such a crucial position.

“We demand that, until a full and transparent investigation is completed, Senator Shehu Buba be immediately relieved of his duties as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence.”
