Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, claimed on Saturday that his policy document, “My Covenant with Nigerians,” contains the most proactive strategy for ending Nigeria’s ongoing power outage.

The blackout in Nigeria’s southeast, northwest, and northeast was denounced by Atiku.

He stated that in order to bring energy back to the affected geopolitical zones, the ministry and the departments in charge of handling the blackout must act swiftly.

Atiku bemoaned on X that the ongoing blackout in Nigeria has become a major source of worry.

“The circumstances in the Southeast as well as the entire states of the Northwest and Northeast that have been in total blackouts in the last three weeks are of particular reference,” Atiku wrote.

Restoring energy to the affected geopolitical zones requires prompt action from all government agencies tasked with handling the issue.

“In the meantime, I continue to think that my solution, which is contained in my Policy Document, ‘My Covenant with Nigerians,’ is the most proactive strategy to guide our nation out of its ongoing gloom.”

Decentralization of electricity to states was another demand made by the former vice president.

“It is imperative that the entire electricity value chain be taken off the exclusive list and that states be given the authority to produce, transmit, and distribute their own electricity,” he continued.

Following a days-long power outage, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, or TCN, announced Tuesday that work are underway to bring electricity back to the North.

A temporary “400-megawatt power supply to the affected Northern regions via the UGWUAJI APIR Line” is almost ready to be made available, according to TCN.

Within a few hours, the temporary fix should be put into place.
