Deji Adeyanju, an activist lawyer, has denied pleading with Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s minister, to back his then-aspired position as the PDP’s national publicity secretary.
Wike lied about him pleading for his assistance, according to Adeyanju.
In an Abuja speech, Wike said that Adeyanju had attacked him for not endorsing his desire to become the PDP spokesperson.
Wike accused Adeyanju of being a lawyer without a job for criticizing him over the recent demolitions in the FCT.
Adeyanju responded by saying that Wike and others should be imprisoned for electoral fraud and “our patrimony theft.”
“My only crime against Wike is that I have decided to do constructive criticism against him and his anti-people policies in the FCT and issues surrounding the land-grabbing of poor people’s homes and giving them to his friends,” Adeyanju stated during a press conference in Abuja.
We are grateful that he did not criticize us for the accusations he made in his response. “Yes, he’s giving his friends the lands he’s grabbing. Should he give the lands to his enemies?” he asked.
“These are the individuals in charge of our nation; they ought to be imprisoned for their roles in electoral fraud, theft, and corruption. It is they who wish to deliver morality lectures.
He claimed that I approached him and pleaded with him to serve as the PDP’s national publicity secretary. As everyone in Nigeria is aware, I left politics eight years ago, and that incident took place prior to my resignation.
When I give him criticism over the years, he contacts me to say he doesn’t want to be critiqued. I got to know all of the PDP governors when I was actively involved in politics. Consultation with party leaders is never regarded as begging, as far as I can tell.
“Wike assured me twice that he would back me, and he never explicitly stated that he wouldn’t. There is nothing I say that I don’t have the receipt, and he will contact you whenever you contradict him. Because of his God complex, he dislikes being challenged. Shouldn’t elders be self-assured individuals who make sure you’re safe doing anything with them?
“Should he call a news conference and start crying roughly nine years later, assuming I went to beg him—which is untrue? After consulting with all PDP stakeholders, I traveled throughout the nation, first as the National Publicity Secretary and later when the party changed it to my
zone, North Central. Everybody endorsed me over eight years ago. David Mark and all the leaders from the North Central endorsed me.”
