Professor Iliyasu Usman is the first Igbo Muslim to be appointed as an imam at the Abuja National Mosque by its administration.

On Friday, today, at Jumm’at prayer, Usman will deliver his first khutbah (sermon), which will be a momentous occasion for the Muslim community in Nigeria.

Many people have praised this appointment, particularly the South East Muslim Organization of Nigeria (SEMON), which sees it as evidence of Usman’s dedication to Islamic leadership and research.

In addition to being a significant personal achievement for Usman, SEMON underlined that this appointment is a divine obligation to guide the Muslim community in devotion and service to Allah.

The group said it hoped his leadership would strengthen the Igbo Muslim community and promote harmony among Nigeria’s Muslim community as a whole.

“The South East Muslim Organization of Nigeria (SEMON) would like to express its sincere congratulations to Professor Ilyasu Usman on his recent appointment as an Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja,” the statement said. This esteemed position is a witness to your steadfast devotion and academic prowess, as well as a divine gift and duty to guide the Ummah in worship and service to Allah.
