The agreement on the implementation of the new national minimum wage of N70,000 and the ensuing modifications was signed by the Abia State Government (ABSG) and the state’s organized labor.
This comes two days after the Abia State government received a strike warning from organized labor on November 2, 2024.
The government expects that the gesture will be reciprocated by employees’ dedication to increased productivity in the state public sector, stated State Governor Alex Otti during the event.
According to Otti, who was accompanied by Caleb Ajagba, his chief of staff, the Abia State administration has been leading the charge to improve worker welfare.
Additionally, we would like to guarantee that the new minimum wage will take effect in October.
“In other words, those who are at the lowest level, which is Grade Level One Step One, will get at least 70,000 Naira,” Otti said.
Governor Otti referred to the negotiation’s resolution as a “win-win” scenario and commended the Organized Labor members for their maturity throughout the entire process.
In response, Ogbonnaya Okoro, the state chairman of the NLC and head of the Organized Labor team, stated that the agreement’s signature was a significant step in enforcing the new minimum wage.
Abia State Head of Service Mrs. Ngozi Queen Obioma and Chief of Staff Caleb Ajagba signed on behalf of Abia State.
NLC Chairman Okoro Ogbonnaya, TUC Chairman Ikechi Enogwe, and Abia State Head of Service Mrs. Ngozi Queen Obioma, along with Caleb Ajagba, Chief of Staff, signed on behalf of the Abia State government.
