According to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, his nation would not take part in the eviction of Palestinians, which is an injustice that puts Egyptian security at risk.
In his first public reaction to US President Donald Trump’s demand that Cairo host Gaza Strip residents, Sisi made this statement on Wednesday.
Egypt’s leader stated that his nation would cooperate with the new U.S. president to achieve peace between Israel and the Palestinians through a two-state solution during a press conference with visiting Kenyan President William Ruto.
“Given its impact on Egyptian national security, the remarks being made regarding the displacement of Palestinians can never be tolerated or permitted,” Sisi stated.
After 15 months of Israeli shelling that left the majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents homeless, Trump stated on Saturday that Egypt and Jordan should take in Palestinians from Gaza, which he described as a demolition zone.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians reside in Egypt, while several million already call Jordan home.
In the meantime, Trump’s proposal has been rejected in recent days by the foreign ministries of Jordan and Egypt.
