Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has received a strong warning from the Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) not to use his recent remarks to turn the Southwest into a battlefield.

After INEC proclaimed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa the victor of the governorship race, Ganduje said he was confident the APC will win Oyo and Osun states in the upcoming elections while visiting Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday.

Tosin Odeyemi, the NNPP’s Osun chairman, blasted Ganduje’s comments in a statement released in Osogbo on Monday, calling them foolish and unworthy of an elder statesman, particularly in light of the current economic sufferings that Nigerians are facing under the APC-led administration.

Given his role, one would have thought Dr. Ganduje would have shown improved communication abilities. Who would voluntarily vote for the APC given the economic difficulties Nigerians are facing? The events that occurred in Ondo State shouldn’t derail Ganduje.

“Osun people are peaceful and smart. Every party must let the people make their own decisions. Ganduje must avoid creating a conflict zone in the Southwest. Words have power, and Osun must be crisis-free in 2026,” he stated.

He also pushed Ganduje to run in his own state, where the NNPP had previously defeated the party by a wide majority, in order to demonstrate the APC’s support.
