The improved runway at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in the Onueke Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been put into service by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the president’s wife.

At 3:18 p.m., Oluremi Tinubu arrived at the airport on a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, designated 5N-FGV. Governor Francis Nwifuru welcomed him as the grand finale to the Ebonyi Women’s Day celebration.

She was also welcomed by the governor’s wife, Mrs. Mary Maudline Nwifuru, and the vice president’s wife, Hajia Nana Shettima.

23 governors’ spouses from the Nigeria Governors Spouses Forum, which is chaired by Ambassador Olufolake Abdulrazaq, the First Lady of Kwara State, were also present to welcome Senator Tinubu.

Upon her arrival, the First Lady officially opened the airport’s renovated runway, which had been built by the Nwifuru administration.

State residents flocked to the airport to greet her, and she also made the time to dance with a women’s cultural ensemble.

Senator Tinubu is in the state to participate in the annual celebration of Ebonyi ladies’s Day, which honors the state’s ladies, and its grand finale.

The airport will start operating commercial flights next month, according to Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu, the Commissioner for Aviation.

“The Governor Nwifuru administration has swiftly handled all the challenges and obstacles that would have prevented the commercial flight from taking off,” she said.

Governor Nwifuru expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support of the state, which enabled the state to upgrade the runway.

When we arrived on May 29, 2023, we started building this runway out of concrete. As a state, we were unaware that concrete is not permitted for runway construction.

“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority closed the airport when we arrived, stating that planes could not land here, so we made the decision to begin repairing the runway.

“We built the runway and finished it to be one of the best runways in this country, Nigeria, with the special grace of God and the support and assistance of your husband (the President),” he stated.

The First Lady praised the governor for the amazing airport and officially opened the runway. Additionally, he praised Nwifuru for being gender-friendly in his appointments.

“I am quite happy to be in Ebonyi State, and I believe your testimonials have truly outperformed yours.

“I’m really happy we came, and I can see how stunning Nigeria is. We don’t advertise ourselves, you know. I even said that we visited Burundi today, and I felt they performed admirably. Your runway is superior to what I was even praising them for for a Nigerian state.

Therefore, we would like to give God praise for the excellent work you have been performing. “Seeing young people who are actively involved in their work and doing excellent work makes me happy; they deserve praise,” she remarked.
