The Lakurawa terror gang, which is now wreaking havoc in Sokoto and Kebbi states, is not new, according to security analyst Bulama Bukarti.
Bukarti claimed that the group has been in the nation for almost six years and that they mostly come from the Niger Republic.
A new terrorist organization called Lakurawa has emerged in northwest Nigeria, prompting the Defense Headquarters to issue a warning.
In certain areas of the region, the gang has reportedly carried out lethal attacks that have killed innocent bystanders.
The group has been “sporadically living or camping in the northwestern part of Nigeria for over six years now,” according to Bukarti, who discussed the development on a Channels TV show on Monday.
Although they did not remain in Nigeria permanently, they began entering the country illegally in 2016 or 2017.
“They move in, stay for a few months, and then they return to the Sahel or wherever they are coming from in Niger [Republic].” That is what they do, and they still do.
He asserted that security organizations were aware of the group’s existence, particularly the Department of State Services, or DSS.
