According to Sudan Tribune, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a retaliatory strike on villages in East Al Jazirah, central Sudan, killing at least 49 people and wounding scores more.

Targeting civilians, the attack has led to a humanitarian crisis and increased displacement.

According to a statement issued by the Al Jazirah Conference, 300 people have died as a result of the RSF’s retaliatory campaign in 30 villages in the Tambul region. However, Sudan Tribune reports that because to communication failures and the continuous hunt for the missing, the death toll is still not complete.

These assaults are thought to be reprisals for the defection of Abu Aqla Kikal, a well-known RSF commander, who joined the Sudanese army last Sunday.

Waves of relocation have continued since Kikal’s defection as the RSF exacts punishment on people thought to be aiding the army.

Sudan Tribune has received repeated reports of RSF atrocities against civilians from residents of the communities in east Al Jazirah. RSF members killed a civilian and fired at random before burning agricultural fields, according to one survivor from the village of Ad al-Khadr.

Al-Sharafa al-Bahr, Dalut al-Bahr, al-Habika al-Naqr, Bant, al-Amara Ali, Ad al-Khadr, Wad al-Hussein East, Wad al-Hussein West, Wad al-Humaim, al-Abudab, al-Aziaba, al-Suqia, al-Junayd al-Hilla, al-Hashishab, al-Sayal, and the five villages that comprise Kariyat are among the 24 villages that have been compelled to evacuate due to the attacks. Neighborhoods in Tambul and the majority of Rufaa city have also been impacted by the relocation.

People who have been displaced are in a terrible humanitarian position. Many people are suffering from acute food shortages and are deficient in essential supplies, particularly flour. Due to RSF looting at the beginning of the attacks, there is a severe cash scarcity and widespread personal fund loss at the displacement destinations.
