The State of Palestine’s Embassy in Nigeria has denounced the escalating bloodshed in Gaza, calling it genocide rather than just a humanitarian catastrophe. This forceful declaration follows alarming reports that show the serious harm done to civilians, especially children.
Ambassador Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh urged world leaders to recognize the urgency of the situation during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini referred to the situation in Gaza as “hell on earth” for children in remarks he made.
The Embassy released concerning figures as the violence enters its 384th day: more than 42,603 deaths have been reported, including 17,000 youngsters and 786 babies. With 100,282 people reported injured and severe shortages of clean water, food, and medical treatment, the humanitarian catastrophe is getting worse.
The statement underlined the terrible destiny of families, pointing out that many children have been left orphaned and are currently living in terrible conditions. Additionally, some 35,055 children are left without parental care, and about 12,500 cancer patients face potentially fatal dangers as a result of inadequate treatment.
With more over 11,400 inmates, including numerous journalists and children, the situation in the occupied West Bank is as troubling. The Embassy claimed that the international community’s inactivity amounts to complicity in these human rights crimes and denounced the continued suppression of Palestinian voices and the targeted murders of journalists.
As the situation worsens, the Embassy is calling on the international community to intervene quickly, offer humanitarian assistance, and seek an end to the fighting. Their message emphasizes the conflict’s huge human cost, especially for children, who are the most vulnerable group.
