Biya arrived at Yaounde International Airport, Cameroon’s capital.

The 91-year-old emerged on state broadcaster CRTV shortly after the presidential plane landed, shaking hands with authorities beside his wife Chantal as a euphoric mob gathered to greet him.

Biya’s health and whereabouts were called into doubt a few weeks ago when he disappeared from public eye.

Biya’s location remained unknown after he attended the China-Africa conference in Beijing in early September.

“Today, the president is on his way, and this will put an end to all the speculation,” said a CRTV presenter.

“Welcome home, Mr President of the Republic,” said one billboard with Biya’s face on a blue background.
