Aloy Ejimakor, the lead attorney for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), accused the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday of depriving the agitator access to his lawyers.
Ejimakor questioned Kanu’s health in light of the DSS’s current action.
Kanu sparked outrage before the Abuja Federal High Court on September 24, 2024, when he demanded that Justice Binta Nyako recuse herself from his case.
Kanu has demanded that Justice Nyako withdraw herself from his trial, citing a lack of confidence.
Following his demand, the judge announced her recusal and directed that Kanu’s case file be submitted to Justice John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.
But, Tsoho had rejected Justice Nyako’s recusal, directing her to continue with the trial.
However, Kanu’s legal team’s attempts to see him at the DSS facility were unsuccessful.
In a statement, Ejimakor said: “Today (October 14, 2024), in violation of existing court orders, the State Security Services (DSS or SSS) blocked Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team from seeing him when we went to its headquarters in Abuja on a routine visitation to Mazi Kanu, pursuant to the court-ordered visitation regimen.
“It should be noted that the DSS has not permitted any visitors to see Mazi Nnamdi Kanu since his last court appearance on September 24, 2024, when he asked Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako’s recusal from his case.
