On October 1, Nigeria celebrates its 64th year of independence. Former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has advised Nigerians to count their blessings.

In an interview with NAN in Enugu on Sunday, Okechukwu, a foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated as much.

Despite the nation’s current socioeconomic realities, he said the occasion called for a sober reflection.

He said that despite the nation’s ongoing economic difficulties, Nigerians still have a lot to be happy about.

“I was five years old in 1960 when we gained our independence, and it is a good thing to reflect on our blessings and look inward.”

Some of these gifts are a united nation, a growing population, with a youth-dominated population in particular, more secondary and elementary schools, colleges, and hospitals, as well as more highways and rails.

He uttered, “I sincerely thank Almighty God.”

“Policies of public interest and common good will triumph over selfish policies of planlessness,” Okechukwu stated that Nigeria was about to enter a new age.

He characterized Nigerians as good followers and predicted positive changes coming soon.

“Our former leaders were well-meaning but lacked the political resolve to endanger the class. All due respect to them.

“For without class suicide, how can leadership utilise our abundant human and material resources to lift millions out of poverty and effectively ignite Nigeria’s rapid revitalisation?” He asked rhetorically.

The Federal Government has designated Tuesday, Oct. 1, a public holiday to honor the nation’s 64th Independence Day commemoration.
