A research by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has revealed that controversial crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, alias Bobrisky, spent barely three weeks of his term in prison, with the remainder in a secret location.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos had, on April 12 this year, sentenced the infamous crossdresser to six months in jail for Naira abuse.
However, he regained his release on August 5. His looks stirred conversations among Nigerians, with many assuming he received special treatment while in jail.
Social media was riled up on Tuesday after Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), tweeted an audio-visual recording in which Bobrisky was reported to have claimed that he spent his time in a private apartment, persuaded by his godfather.
He further stated that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were compromised with N15 million to drop the ‘money laundering’ case against him.
According to the FIJ report, while Bobrisky was certainly brought to Kirikiri prison in April after his sentence, he disappeared from the jail after roughly three weeks.
The article said that Bobrisky was treated like a president for the three weeks he was in prison before he was transferred out.
“Bob spent only three weeks here with us in Kirikiri before he was taken out to another place we don’t know,” a jail officer told FIJ. “That was where he spent his time; it was a ‘arrangee thing.’ And money was involved.”
The source also informed FIJ how Bobrisky was “guarded like a president” until he was “secretly taken away after three weeks.”
“He received VIP treatment all through,” stated the person. “He lived in a special cell. The money he said he paid is truly true; no falsehoods. Yes, he paid the money.”
