Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria has responded to her reappointment as Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) for a second term.

The WTO reappointed Okonjo-Iweala as Director-General for a second term, according to the DAILY POST.

The trust and support of the WTO General Council and its 166 members, according to Okonjo-Iweala, is a great honor.

She made this claim in a statement to the WTO General Council on Friday after being reappointed.

She also promised to collaborate with WTO employees to create a global trading system that is more rules-based, inclusive, and equal.

“The confidence and backing of the WTO General Council and its 166 Members is a great honor for me. It is an honor to remain the Director-General for a second four-year term.

“The WTO has been instrumental in assisting Members in navigating urgent global issues in recent years, such as the pandemic, conflict, and elevated geopolitical tensions.

“As we look to the future, I’m still steadfastly dedicated to producing outcomes that are significant—outcomes that eventually enhance the lives of people everywhere.

“I have a strong commitment to collaborating with the WTO’s talented and committed staff to create a more equitable, inclusive, and rules-based multilateral trading system that is advantageous to all.”
