In their respective states, the Wives of Nigeria Governors Forum has decided to continue the battle against gender-based and sexual abuse.

According to the forum, it is evidence of the dedication of these outstanding partnerships, advancements, and growth to the benefit of their states and the country at large.

This was stated in a statement released following a meeting held behind closed doors on Thursday at Centenary City’s New Government House in Abakaliki.

Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, their Chairperson and First Lady of Kwara State, read the communiqué and gave it to reporters.

“The forum reaffirms its unwavering resolve to continue the fight against sexual and gender-based violence in their respective states,” the communiqué stated.

The communiqué states that the First Ladies have joined forces to support the Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization (GAVI) Initiative, pledging to continue pushing for the adoption of the HPV vaccine in order to safeguard girls’ health.

“The next course of action is to selectively raise awareness of cancer and HPV vaccination among the wives of local government chairmen.”

In order to boost maternity and child welfare, the First Ladies also promised to actively push for the implementation of six months of paid maternity leave. They would accomplish this by interacting with state lawmakers and executive governors in every state.

In remembrance of their colleague, the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, the meeting conducted a one-minute silence.

There were twenty-three First Ladies present when the meeting concluded.
