According to report, there were rumors yesterday that Tosin Adeola Ajayi, the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), had fired Fasasi.

Rasheed Atanda Lawal, a deputy director presently enrolled in a fellowship at the National Institute for Security Studies, has taken Fasasi’s post.
Shortly after arriving with Tinubu on Saturday night after the President returned from a two-week vacation, Fasasi received his termination letter, according to Western Post. In a diplomatic gesture that indicated his departure from the role, he was told to continue on a one-year security training overseas.
According to sources, Fasasi’s dismissal is a component of a broader DSS reorganization headed by the recently hired DG. President Tinubu fully supports the reorganization, having instructed Ajayi to restore the agency’s professionalism and integrity when he was appointed in August 2023.
The President selected Ajayi on the basis of his competence, acknowledging his experience and expertise.
Insiders claim that Fasasi misused his position to obtain several promotions within the military.
According to a source, he outperformed senior DSS officers and received three promotions in a single year. “Before him, some of these officers had served for six to eight years.”
For example, Lawal, the new CSO, was supposed to be promoted to Director in July 2023, but the previous administration of the service postponed his promotion.
Another DSS insider told Western Post, “He is one of the Deputy Directors who should have been promoted in July 2023, but those positions were given to juniors, including Fasasi, due to favoritism.”
Fasasi was also charged with contempt, conceit, high-handedness, and potential corruption, all of which have not been proven.
The source added, “Fasasi irritated a lot of people around the President.” According to reports, even the president was unhappy with the way he handled his position.
It was learned that more agency-wide redeployments and removals are anticipated.
