Timaya, whose real name is Inetimi Alfred Odom, is a singer who has spoken out about how his choice to utilize controversy as a tactic backfired.

The “Dem Mama” singer claimed in a recent interview with Channels TV that while being controversial was a tactic, the media overused it, which had negative effects.

“I used controversy as a tactic, but the media went too far and wanted to kill me.” Additionally, newspapers were used back then rather than the internet. One week passes after the publication of the contentious piece before another is released. You’ll be the talk of the town for that week,” he remembered.

“You’ll notice your face in the newspaper that was used to wrap it when you go to buy suya the following week. It was quite difficult. And I was the only one stirring up trouble at the time. People believed me to be insane. My upbringing in Port Harcourt also contributed to my controversy at the time.

Timaya clarified that after his contentious approach failed, he took conscious attempts to rebrand.

The artist has previously been embroiled in a number of scandals, such as obtaining a car gift from actress Empress Njamah, his ex-girlfriend, following their split.

Years ago, he also had a falling out with producer Nico Gravity.

Terry G, a coworker, criticized him last year for allegedly owing money in music royalties.
