The Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take proactive measures to alleviate the country’s current misery.

Honourable Ismaila Yusuf Atus, Executive Chairman of the organization, stated on Sunday that growing fuel costs had further affected citizens’ purchasing power.

He advocated for urgent government action to alleviate residents’ suffering, conceding that present initiatives were insufficient.

The organization also urged non-governmental organizations, industry leaders, and affluent individuals to band together to help underserved communities.

The statement reads: “The hunger is terrible, and rising fuel prices have only exacerbated the problems. Many people can no longer afford to eat healthily.

“I urge all of us who work for non-governmental organizations to band together and help our communities. We also urge the administration to take steps to alleviate the suffering in our country.

“While we recognize that the government is trying its best and that many programs were in place before this administration entered office, we continue to urge them to strive toward easing the burdens that individuals endure.

“We urge other well-off Nigerians to step forward at this vital time; the people need your help more than ever. It is critical for the wealthy to share their resources and help those in need.

“Additionally, we urge business leaders and politicians not to keep their wealth in bank accounts while the public suffers.

“Given the current challenges in the country, the Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative has decided to assist Nigerians who are struggling with poverty by raising N500 million to help two million people.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has raised the price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to N1,030 per liter, exacerbating Nigerians’ misery.
