The Tiv Community in Lagos (Mdzough U Tiv Lagos), a sociocultural organization, has been charged by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), with constantly promoting the advancement and unity of the ethnic community.

At last Saturday’s Tiv Cultural Fiesta 2024 big finale, which took place at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, the SGF made this claim. With the subject “Tiv Heritage: Promoting Unity, Preserving Culture and Traditions,” the Cultural Fiesta took place from Friday, November 15, 2024, to Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Tiv men and women from all walks of life in Lagos came together with their families for the two-day festival to commemorate and express their traditional heritage.

Akume called on them to band together and share friendship with others, particularly with President Bola Tinubu, his principal, who he claimed has a great regard for the Tiv people.

He underlined that the Tiv people would remain acknowledged in national issues under Tinubu’s leadership. In his speech, Hon. Steven Terfa Uzer, the president of the Tiv community in Lagos State, urged all Tivs to set aside their differences and strive toward a shared goal for the community’s development.

“I implore all Lagos Tivs to stand with me in our pursuit of harmony. We have to understand that our diversity is what makes us strong, not what makes us weak,” he remarked.

The CPC Chairman, Hon. Atondu Thomas, had earlier in his welcoming speech described the community’s efforts to empower the Tiv people in Lagos, including plans to purchase land and construct a community center known as Ayatutu House, Lagos.

Together with members of the Tiv Traditional Council in Lagos and their families, His Royal Highness, Tor Tiv Lagos, Chief Cletus Kukunu, was present at the function. Attendee HRH Luke Atane Och’Idoma Akubo Agaba Idu of Lagos said he would like to work with Mdzough U Tiv Lagos on such events in the future.

Mr. Terry Atoba, a shareholder and businessman in Lagos and Abuja, Board member Hon. Prince David Makir, and ESV Kwaghbo Simeon Shangev-de, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tiv Community in Lagos, are among the other important attendees.
